PTSD (Posttraumatic stress disorder) is not just about one’s response to an emotionally overwhelming event. Two people experiencing the same event often have distinctly differing emotional, cognitive, and behavioral responses after the event. One of the presumed reasons for this is that each person’s genetics includes elements that make them individual in many ways, one of which could be a variable vulnerability to developing PTSD.

This exploratory research developed an innovative way to test this idea, developing evidence supporting the genetic vulnerability hypothesis.
